Well, 2015 is past and the new year is upon us so Happy New Yesr. I’m updating the site to finally add some of the graphic design resources I had in mind from the beginning. We now have a new gallery with a few design elements added. These are all created from scanned images and include some painted brush strokes, “grunge” prints, and some grid overlays which I drew for the art journal page in this post. Hopefully it gives you an idea of what you can do with some of the design elements of this type.
I created this art journal page entirely in Photoshop with a combination of scanned design elements (painted or drawn with a gel pen), stamped images, and public domain images from old book illustrations. The page below is a black and white version which I also like.
The color in the page comes from a photo taken in Yellowstone – one of the beautiful thermal pools. I zoomed in on just the colors in the water which produced an amazing gradient from blue to golden yellow. To use the image I blurred it in Photoshop and applied it over the black and white images with a color blending mode. The picture is below (and added to the gallery if you want to try something similar).
I also plan to create a resources page and share some of the links to public domain books with excellent illustrations, as well as other websites which host public domain or otherwise free images. So stay tuned for more goodies this year!
