I created this design while playing with a free 2D cad program (DraftSight). My background is in engineering and I always found cad programs to provide much better tools than vector editing programs like Illustrator for some types of designs. In cad programs it is trivial to pattern, rotate, and align features while in my old copy of Illustrator it’s always a challenge.
For the stamp, I have two versions. The first is an early version which shows extra lines which are not part of the design. These come from ridges in the carving material which are high enough to leave an impression and give it a woodcut look. The second image is cleaned up so that only these extra ridges are gone but it keeps the character of the hand stamped image. If anyone likes the woodcut look I’ll try to keep a version like this for future carves. Both versions are available in the gallery.
